Almaden Valley was home to orchards and ranches in the early days of Santa Clara County. It is most famous for the Almaden Quick Silver Mines that mined mercury. These mines were closed but a county park now provides many hiking and equestrian trails for the nearby neighborhoods. New Almaden is also home of the wonderful French Restaurant called La Forét. This is a fantastic old world restaurant that offers a classic menu and made to order soufflés. The atmosphere is supplemented nicely by the creek side flowing along the restaurant edge. This is one of my favorite places for Sunday Brunch. This is not an in and out restaurant. Plan to sit and enjoy friends and/or family. The homes in the area are surrounded by some of the best San Jose Unified schools with Greystone Elementary and Bret Harte High School. The homes are mostly two story ranch and Mediterranean styled. Almaden Valley boast some of the larger homes in the San Jose area with 5 bedrooms common throughout the area. The average home price is $1.01 million.
